Best Ssd For 2011 Book Pro Mac Pro SSD![]() Has been working for over 8 months without any problems.I bought this one on sale and found that it would not mount in my Case. It has boxes for drive installing, with rubber grommets.Overall Review: I already have the same SSD in a 3.5" case. A simular case offered today is the Antec Performance One. My case is an Anted P180b. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.OCZ (one of the best support companies available)Cons: Using adapter plate for installing into a desktop with special rubber mounting system. Hp envy 5661 driver for macSo, I returned it and bought another 3.5" model. I could not mount it in either drive box. My Anted P180 Case has rubber mounts with long screws. The rubber mount grommets in mine are apx 1/4" long. The 2.5" and 3.5" model are identical inside. I did not want a loose SSD sitting in my case. A standard case would have allowed an install. This could have been avoided by naming the 25nm products differently than the 34nm. This caused: less available space BEFORE even formatting AND slower performance overall (due to a few factors).OCZ did not inform customers of the change, and did NOT change the model number in any way to give the customer an idea that a change in hardware was made.To make matters worse, they want the customer to pay the difference to RMA this SSD to one that provides the space (but not necessarily the performance), of the SSD drives that had earned MaximumPC acclaim (which OCZ is more than happy to splash all over their site with a flash banner with the now 'old' specs).Check OCZ's support forum for info (and responses):Overall Review: OCZ should do the right thing quickly before this spirals out of control, takes their recently good reputation and flushes it away for what appears to be a money grab. I didn't like spending $60 more for the same results, but I want a good install.Pros: Price was barely any cheaper than it normally is at time of purchase.Cons: Basically the same as XLNC's complaints:OCZ switched from 34nm NAND to 25nm. I sure wish I could have done a mounted install. There is no way to tell which size NAND your drive will have, as OCZ doesn't distinguish them with revision numbers. See Cons below.Cons: The new Vertex 2 drives contain 25nm NAND cells, which are slower than older 34nm NAND cells in the original version. It feels fast, but this is my first SSD, so I have no frame of reference. That number means nothing. Yeah right! That's using ATTO benchmark which just writes highly compressible data like all zeroes, so the sandforce controller basically doesn't have to write anything. It's the good old "bait and switch" tactic.Overall Review: Newegg product info says sustained write speeds of 250MB/s. What you are buying may not be the same as what you see being reviewed in tech websites. They sent the faster drives to review sites and got the good word out there. The 40 number sends you to the same messaging service as the toll-free 80 number. They instruct people to call 40 for a "support manager". (You can read my prior comment below for details.)Cons: The reponses are completely fluff. It just isn't what's "advertised." I will not be buying OCZ products anymore since I don't trust them as a company.Pros: OCZ Technology responds to negative feedback on NewEgg's review threads. I'm not saying the drive is slow, because I wouldn't really know what's slow for an SSD. You have to give the drive time to do it's "garbage collection." I will be benching again in a week to see if my scores improve, if not, I'll try to return the drive.I'm not saying benchmark numbers are that important, because they're not. At least one out of four of these drives has already failed! I am now expecting the rest to fail at any time. Over the last 12 months we have installed over 30 of these (and similar OCZ) drives. Pretty retail packaging.Cons: I own a small computer services company in Colorado. The 25 nm NAND versions are slower in performance, have lower write cycle lifetimes, and format to slightly smaller capacities.Guess now it is time to call NewEgg directly and request my money back.Pros: Very fast drives when working. Judge for yourself.The only thing that this phone call confirmed is that OCZ Technology would replace my defective Vertex 2 units (which have 34 nm NAND) with ones containing 25 nm NAND. No one I spoke to in technical support had any clue what "support manager" referred to - even after I read the reponse right from Newegg's review threads.Overall Review: The reponses are designed to give the impression that OCZ Technology provides good support to customers experiencing problems. All of these installs have been done on brand new computers running Win7 Home Premium or Professional with no overclocking or other performance tweaks whatsoever.Overall Review: OCZ has replaced the drives as they failed. Do NOT take the risk and use one of these drives. These drives are NOT reliable. This is making my company look very bad in the eyes of our customers. Of course, all of these drives have been purchased via newegg and their service has been excellent. Needless to say I will think twice about using this brand again and may consider not installing any SSDs unless/until their reliability improves. I will now be seeking REFUNDS instead of replacements. The replacement drives are the same product with presumably the same issues, so substituting bogus for bogus does not improve reliability.
